Books About Helping The Planet

These are some books I like about helping the planet.

Book Number 1: The Lorax by Dr. Seuss

The Lorax by Dr. Seuss is about the Onceler who chops all the trees down and all the animals have to leave. He chops all the trees down so he can make thneeds to make money. The Lorax tries to stop him but couldn’t. Then the Lorax has to leave too because there are no more trees left. At the end the Onceler says there’s one very last seed left to plant and he says: “UNLESS someone like you cares a whole awful lot, nothing is going to get better. It’s not.” The Lorax makes me think about wanting to help the planet because it’s sad when all the trees are chopped down but it’s happy at the end because new trees are being planted. When the Onceler says, “UNLESS someone like you cares a whole awful lot” I feel like he’s talking to me. It makes me want to plant trees to make a home for animals.

Book number 2: The Great Kapok Tree by Lynne Cherry

The Great Kapok Tree is about a man who is going to chop down a tree in the Amazon Rainforest but he decides not to. He goes to sleep and all the animals and birds who live in the tree tell him not to do it because it is a home for them. One of the animals says: “Surely you know that what happens tomorrow depends upon what you do today.” It makes me think I want there to always be trees.

Book number 3: Marli’s Tangled Tale by Ellie Jackson & Laura Callwood

Marli’s Tangled Tale is about a puffin who gets tangled in a balloon because she thinks it’s a fish. It’s a good book because it made me learn about litter and how litter shouldn’t ever be released into the wild. It made me start doing litter picks. The balloons in the book were released on purpose for a grand opening and they blew into the sea. People should not release balloons on purpose because it’s bad for the environment.

  1. Joey, these book reviews are brilliant! I’m so glad I’ve read about how reading these books make you think and feel. I think it will make me more mindful about which books I should be reading to Leonie and Eden because I now know what a big and positive impact stories can have on young people. I hope you include more book reviews in your blog in the future. Thank you.

  2. Great reviews Joey I have read The Lorax but the others are new to me. I understand how they made you feel. A lot of balloons have been released in the past. We used to have balloon races that raised money for charity. When we bought one we thought we were doing a good thing. We failed to think the damage the balloons were doing. Well done for reminding us to think more about our actions and the impact we have on the environment. Thank you, Keep up your good work.
